For an overall development college is organizing workshop in the 1st term / 2nd term to develop communication skills, reading and writing skills, expression, leadership qualities etc. All the students are expected to attend this workshop and also other programmes conducted by the cell. Students interested in attending various courses conducted by this cell should contact Shri. N. N. Sawant in the third week of June 2006.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR FACILITIES
To develop in students a taste for reading good literature the college has started Literary Club. A prize is awarded every year to the best reader of the higher secondary section to encourage the habit of reading. It also aims building of confidence in students to express their analytical views about great works. The students are guided and encouraged to read papers or to give talks on literary work they have read. College has started NATURE CLUB which aims at, firstly making students aware of the importance of trees, and secondly, encouraging them to plant sapling to make the environment healthy and beautiful.
The WALL PAPER MAGAZINE provides students an opportunity to develop power of creative thinking and writing. Seeing their article on the wall paper acts as an incentive for further literary ventures.
The DRAMATIC CLUB stages a number of plays. The members of this club are encouraged to participate in number of competitions. Guiding the students to a career that is best suited for them is equally important. The College provides the students MENTAL ABILITY CLASSES which help them to develop their potential. This awareness helps them to choose the right career.
A number of students intend to appear for Competitive Examinations. And therefore the College conducts General Knowledge classes which helps them prepare for such examinations.
Department of Physics and Mathematics conducts lectures for All Goa Higher Secondary Students who intend to appear for Indian Astronomy Olympiad, Junior level as well as at Senior level. Department of Mathematics also conducts lectures for students preparing for Mathematics Olympiad.
COLLEGE FACILITIES
The College has spacious and well–equipped laboratories in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geography, Geology, Electronics and Computer Science. The laboratory of the department of Botany has been recognized by the Goa University as a center where research work leading to Ph. D. can be carried out. Valuable additions have been made to these laboratories from time to time.
The college also has an IIT guidance center and GCET guidance center. The College conducts GCET training course of two / three weeks duration after H S S C examination. Special MCQ tests are admisnistered by the trained teachers in the subjects Physics , Chemistry , Mathematics and Biology. AIEEE tests, for the students preparing this examination are conducted in the subject Mathematics.
The college has a spacious main Library and study room. The library has 49,700 books. The library subscribes for more than 60 periodicals and journals. The sets of text book to needy and deserving students are made available at nominal charges from the Book – Bank.
HIGHER SECONDARY SECTION
The Government of Goa adopted the 10+2+3 pattern of education since 1975. The S. S. C. examination is held at the end of 10 years in school. The next two years of education constitute the higher secondary stage, which have now been named as the Higher Secondary Section of the college. Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule Cultural Foundation’s College of Arts and Science runs Higher Secondary classes for the Science and Arts streams.
Chowgule college
The Chowgule Education Society Founded in Margao, Goa, Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule Cultural Foundation’s College of Arts and Science in June 1962. The College is patronized by the Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule Cultural Foundation, a foundation raised by the Chowgules’ in honour of their mother. It is the oldest institution providing instruction in Arts and Science streams up to degree level.
The College moved into its own new and spacious premises in 1971. The College had been affiliated to the University of Bombay from June 1962 till 18th June, 1986. From 19th June, 1986 it stands affiliated to the Goa University.
The Higher Secondary section of the college was started immediately after the introduction of the 10 + 2 + 3 pattern in 1975. It sends up candidates to the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
The Chowgule Education Society is committed to support the College for further growth and development to meet adequately the educational needs of the changing times in the state of Goa.
The Chowgule Educational Society has introduced a post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications from July 1986 in the College. A Course in Computer Science at B.Sc. is introduced from June 1991.
